Abstract

Roof bolting, as a system of support for underground mines, is now a worldwide-accepted technique in any type of geomining condition. Roof blots are first line of defense protecting mineworkers from the hazard of roof and ground fall. Roof rocks have more inherent strength due to roof bolting compared to earlier support system. Now it is felt by the researchers and scientists to give proper attention to improve its technology and mechanism. Cement grouts, which are presently used, can be replaced by chemical grouts, because of its high viscosity, for strengthening the weak as well as fissured rocks. Grouting has been done in underground mining for last 20 years for better stability and safe mining. Field experience and laboratory research have defined the properties of an effective grouting material. Furthermore, the results suggest that resin has the ability to enhance the mechanical properties of rock mass by its potential to expand. The main objective of this paper is to tell how resin grout provide immediate support to roof strata without any lapse of time so that strata can be strengthen before any bed separation. It is felt that in future resin bolting is the only alternative roof support in under ground mines in India.
