Abstract

A case study pertaining to the human response to blast vibration and air-overpressure in a mine situated in Himalayan region is presented. Standard sampling procedure was followed to collect the data based on especially designed data sheets. Statistical distribution analysis and critical path analysis techniques were used to analyse the data. Form the analysis it is clear that there is a marked increase in response from villages around mines to blasting with increased level of education fear of damage to the property is a major concern in contrast to the physiological damage. While there may be underlying factors effecting the response, genuine complaints cannot be ruled out summarily. Despite the fact the quantification of bias is difficult process, an awareness drive proves to be useful in addition to optimized blasting practice in the mine.
