Abstract

The mineral and fuel resources of a nation are a part of its capital assets and if properly developed, they can prove of great value n Improving the standard of living of the people. The impact of mining and processing of these resources on the environment has thus grown to a great extent and will continue to have its aggregative impact as time goes on. In this respect, Indian coalfields are faced with a number of environmental problems steering from exploitation. In this paper, ecological disturbances due to mining activities of coal are discussed along with certain remedial measures for their control.
