Thermal characteristics of explosive compositions were investigated using DSC-700 (STATION REDCROFT U.K.) and full cartridge method. The emulsion produced ammonia fumes above 150°C and burnt at 200 ± 10° C. The velocity of detonation increased up to 100° C for cap sensitive composition. The activatic energy of emulsion was found comparable to ammonium nitrate. The impact sensitivity was poor. There was no detonation when a 10 kg hammer was repeatedly dropped over the explosive from a height of 2.5m in unconfined condition.
