Abstract
The trend of coal production and the related methane emission to the atmosphere from the mining activities in India is presented. The estimates of emission have been found to increase from 0.06 million tonnes to 0.40 million tonnes between the year 1951 and 1991 and may further rise to 0.60 million tonnes by the turn of the century.
