Abstract

Lattice energy and electronic polarizability of binary tetrahedral semiconductors are calculated using the plasma oscillations theory of solids. Based on curve fitting, the new relations are proposed for the calculation of these parameters. Our calculated values are in excellent agreement with the values reported by other workers. In the present model, no experimental data is required in the calculation except the plasmon energy. One can estimate the value of these parameters in the case of an unknown semiconductor where experimental data on melting point, dielectric constant or bond length is not available.
