Abstract

Subsidence over any abandoned coal mine can occur at any time, regardless how long it has been deserted due to the existence of voids and weak supporting pillars. Subsidence is bound to occur if old workings are left without considering the safety parameters. This paper deals with the causes of subsidence over abandoned mines and the preventive measure to be taken to avoid reoccurrence of ground movement depending upon filed conditions. Economic approach to repair the surface structures has also been dealt in this paper.
