Abstract

One of the main objectives of blasting operation is to obtain proper fragmentation. The overall cost of mine is reduced significantly having a good fragmentation. There are several factors affecting the result of blasting amongst which burden is the most important parameters. Physico-mechanical properties of the rocks are very critical in determining the size of burden. The main objective of this research work is to develop a mathematical model for determination of burden. To fulfill the objectives of the model, geo-mechanical properties of the rocks and blasting pattern of few blasting muck in Muteh gold mine were recorded and analyzed. The criteria of selecting the rock blocks, for this purpose, are the result of having good fragmentation. With the help of dimensional analysis method, burden was found to be a function of blast hole diameter and physico-mechanical properties of the rock. It was also found that powder factor has not any relationship in determining burden.
