Abstract

The problem of land reclamation is scantly attended in our nation. The spoils created due to opencast operations especially in coalmines remained unattended till recent times. However, with increasing awareness among the general public and coming on the science of various environmental action groups, the mining companies have started incorporating environmental concern into their mining plant. For effective reclamation it is necessary to enhance the nutrient status of the spoil material by artificial amendments such as saw dust, hay material and organic compost like cow dung. But in case when it is left as it is, nature takes its own course. In this paper an attempt has been made to study how the plant communities behave with age of the spoil material.
