Abstract

The existence of type of subsurface soil at any location primarily depends on origin of the host rock. There are several engineering applications of soil in global scenario and geophysical methods paly a significant role in it such as status investigation of subsurface soil conditions. The present study encompasses mapping of soil horizon over hard rock terrain being conducted in the premises of Central institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) campus, Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India. Electrical Resistivity tomography (ERT) Survey has been carried out for investigation adopting Wenner-Schlumberger and Dipole-Dipole arrays. The combination of these two configurations assists in developing confident interpretation. Smoothness constrained least-square technique has been used in analysis using RES2DINV software. It is observed that the soil horizon has been identified by its relatively low resistivity anomaly. The encouraging inferences reaped the efficacy of ERT tool in application of soil investigation.
