Abstract

Integrated quality indices of the groundwater samples, which were collected from various locations of Damodar sub-basin during winter season, were estimated on the basis of the multi-criteria decision making approach using fuzzy. The integrated quality indices have been interpolated for the whole area of the window covering all the sapling points. Further an attempt has been made to correlate the integrated quality index with the surface industrial activities. A study window, which covers industrial zones, has been classified and delineated with respect to the integrated quality index of the groundwater, sampled form the groundwater monitoring stations. It has been observed that almost the industrial areas fall under the poor class having the lowest integrated quality indices than the non-industrial areas. Particularly the sampling locations nearby the river system have the lowest indices for drinking purpose. As the river systems are sings of the weaker surface to be considered as one of the lineament properties of the topography, percolation of polluted river water to aquifers through porous media may be mooted to by one the reasons for these areas to have diminished integrated quality indices.
