Abstract

Slope failures often result in extensive property damage and sometimes loss of life. Improving the stability of both natural and manmade slopes continues to be a fundamental problem in geotechnical engineering for strengthening the slopes. The paper outlines the recent innovations in slope stabilization technology, such as use of geogrids for reinforced earth, use of geosynthetics for soil reinforcement use of geotextiles, use of geomembranes, biotechnical stabilization, soil nailing micropiling, stone columns, etc. These methods, if effectively applied, can benefit both civil and mining engineering projects.
