Opencast and underground both the categories of mining industries are the main polluting agencies to pollute the environment at each and every stage of its progress in activities. They discharge huge amount of particulate matters as well as gaseous pollutants to the environment. But in comparison to underground mines, open cast mines are more harmful and pollute the environment. Particulates (dust) enter to a human body primarily through respiration and that deposited into the lungs of a human body, because of the prolong exposure of the activities to open atmosphere. Out of this pollution, the most prevalent one is pollution due to particulate matters. To know the actual situation of the workplace air environment and assess the harmful effects of dust on human beings, monitoring is urgently required for the control of pollution due to particulate matters. This paper highlights the purpose of monitoring equipment to be used and suggestion on control measures with respect to particulate matters.
