Abstract

Machine to machine (M2M) Communications in an underground coal mine has huge prospect for developing and introducing the advanced mining systems for better production and productivity with increased safety. In the present article, an overview of M2M communications has been illustrated, including its future potential and applications of the technology in underground coal mines. An attempt has also been made to provide M2M network architecture and deployment options for underground coal mines that can enable the transmission of data from underground to not only surface but to the area or head offices or wherever needed through the intra-machines connectivity with low-cost devices.
