Abstract

This paper throws light on the latest development in placer mining technology around the world, past and present records and practices. It highlights the study to categories ground condition in beaches to find out their level of compactness/induration, moisture content and other physic o-mechanical characteristics for estimation of the probability of undercutting the submerged part of a send slope during dredging and the stability of the overhang in the above water part of the same slope formed due to the underwater undercutting. It will also highlight the kinds of placer deposits available in the world and an account of heavy mineral resources in India and the mining methods with special emphasis on Indian geo-mining conditions have been presented.
