Abstract

Visibility is discussed here briefly. Illumination, as the authors show, is just one of the factors influencing visibility –in fact, though essential, its influence is indirect. There are certain other factors such as contrast in colour and brightness level of the object which are important. Any lighting installation designed without considering these and other conditions of visibility often gives rise to the problem of glare which, while providing a high livel of illumination, impairs visibility to a great extent.
