Abstract

Naturla and artificial oxidation are known to cause deterioration in the quality of coke obtainable from low-fluid coals. High fluid coals, however, may produce coke of even somewhat increased strength. The strength of an agglomerate depends on the optimum. Proportions of fusible and non-fusibel parts of coal. In low-fluid coals just enough or only slight excess of the fusible material originally present falls below the optimum limit required for the production of hard coke far more quickly than in high fluid coals, which can therefore withstand a longer period of oxidation before showing any deterioration in their coke properties. A probable explanation. For this behaviour has been attempted.
