Abstract

The problem of energy development in India during the Fourth Five Year Plan was the subject of a symposium held at the Central Fuel Research Institute on 4th and 5th February, 1966. The following is the text of Dr. A. Lahiri’s welcome address which draws attention, among other things, to some very crucial questions relating to power, metallurgical coke, domestic energy consumption, oil position, gas supply, energy distribution, import and export policy, availability of skilled personnel, and conditions of productivity.
