Abstract

The paper deals with the more recent progress and developments in the field of coal preparation. The subject has been discussed under five main divisions, namely : (i) Pre-treatment of raw coal, (ii) washing (iii) dewatering (iv) drying and (v) plant control. Development of new coal washing equipment, improvement in coal preparation techniques and the increasing use of instrumentation, automation and operation research results in the increased efficiency of washing, better plant performance and the production of quality product at a competitive price have been also discussed.
