Abstract

In modern power systems, relays based automatic control equipment are becoming increasingly popular. Protective relays play an important and significant role in providing trouble-free operation of electrical power systems and supplying the consumers with an uninterrupted power supply. The use of solid-state devices (e.g., diodes, transistors, thyristors, etc.) in protective relays has further opened up new vistas of its applications in many industries. Such electrical automatic devices which are inevitable to be incorporated in an electric circuit for its successful operation are discussed and illustrated with various protection schemes in the present article.
