Abstract

A new thermo-analytical method to measure the ignition temperature of coals using a thermobalance has been developed. The ignition temperature values obtained are compared with the values obtained by the classical adiabatic apparatus. The effects of various parameters e.g rate of heating, testing atmosphere, rate of oxygen/air used, etc. have also been studied. The reproducibility of values are excellent if experiments are carried out under identical conditions.
