Abstract

Pitch as such or in blend with tar oils is used to produce road tar, coal tar fuel, pitch coke, binders for electrodes and briquettes. It also finds use for roofing, water proofing, enamels etc. Most of these products are of vital importance to the national economy. This paper highlights the current as well as projected demand and potential availability of pitch in India. The requirements of pitch are presented sector-wise for different industries. A case is made out for the production of pitch to meet the quality requirements and to ensure its most rational utilization.
