Abstract

To meet the growing demand for coke by the iron and steel industry of the country, it is becoming necessary to adopt newer techniques of coal preparation and carbonisation which will permit the use of increased proportion of substandard coking coals and non-coking coals thus conserving the country’s meager reserves of good quality coking coals. The present paper outlines some of the newer developments n the area of coal preparation and carbonisation discussing their applicability in the country’s metallurgical coke making.
