Abstract

Fine coal and high difficult washing coal are major causes of poor recovery of combustibles, excessive moisture and high waste disposal costs in coal beneficiation processes. The oil agglomeration process is an excellent method for cleaning and recovering coal fines below 100 microns, difficult washing coals and middlings particularly of very high ash content. Realizing the importance of the process extensive R&D work has been carried out worldwide to recover these coals as useful product. The technoeconomic feasibility of this process is also being evaluated for its commercial exploitation. This article reviews critically the essential features of this technique summarized under different heads and also includes a classification and review of the extensive literature from past decades on the subject.
