Abstract

Respirable dust index (RDI) has been taken as a property of coal with respect to its proneness to produce respirable dust and it is a measure of total yield of respirable dust as a percentage of original coal. Sixteen coal samples from different coal seams have been studied so far. It has been found that the average value of RDI was 143 × 10-4 i.e. on an average about 143 gm of repirable dust of minus 6.5 micron is produced per tonne of coal mined.
