Abstract

The dust arrestor, designed and developed by the Central Mining Research Station, Dhanbad, is novel in concept and execution. The device is small, portable and cheap, yet robust and efficient. During test trials, an efficiency of over 99% for total dust and 95 to 98% for respirable dust had been achieved. It brings work atmosphere to, well within permissible limits of dustiness for safe breathing. Cost is a criterion for selecting operational methods in mining. Capital investment and operational cost of the dust arrestor is low enough as to warrant a try of the device for dust collection during deep hole drilling.
