The Paleoproterozoic carbonates of the Umra Basin, part of the Aravalli Supergroup (2300–1900 Ma) in Rajasthan, India, provide valuable insights into the early stages of the Lomagundi–Jatuli Event (LJE). Earlier studies reported positive δ13Ccarb values along with negative δ13Ccarb values, suggesting fluctuations during the initial stages of the LJE. To refine these interpretations, geochemical analyses of carbonates with differing δ13Ccarb values were conducted to elucidate variations in the initial phases of the LJE and assess paleo-redox conditions during the early stages of the Great Oxidation Event (GOE), which was linked to the evolution of oxygen in the ocean–atmosphere system. The Post-Archean Australian Shale (PAAS)-normalized rare earth element and yttrium (REE + Y) patterns of these shallow water carbonates exhibit HREE enrichment over LREE, weak positive Ce* and Eu* anomalies, and a minor positive Y anomaly, consistent with marine deposition in a reducing environment. Redox-sensitive trace elements and their ratios, such as V/Cr, U/Th, and Ni/Co, suggest a transitional paleo-depositional environment between anoxic–suboxic and dysoxic–oxic conditions. By integrating δ13Ccarb variability with geochemical proxies, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the paleo-redox conditions, and contributes to broader interpretations of seawater chemistry during the early stages of LJE vis-à-vis GOE.
