Abstract

Although efforts have been made in the past to devise some standard apparatus for the float-and-sink analysis of fine coal, no satisfactory solution has yet been found. This paper describes a simplified apparatus which is suitable for rapid and accurate float-and-sink analysis of coals below 1/8”. This improved device also affords considerable safeguards against health hazards caused by using highly volatile organic liquids. The claims in favour of this unit have been established with experimental results.
