Abstract

Mechanical cutting machines are presently extensively used for its eco-friendly environment. Such machines are applicable especially where drilling-and-blasting is difficult due to sensitive surrounding and/or where selective winning of mineral/ore beds/seams, partings and overburden is essential. Despite of its lucrative benefits and successful application in different parts of globe, cannot be universally accepted due to the rigid boundary conditions. Considering techno-feasible information of different surface miners available in the world and un-controllable parameters viz., ground topography, stability and intact rock strength properties of the limestone mine in Khasi Hills of Meghalaya plateau, the paper discusses about the feasibility of surface miner in this mine.
