The authors describe in this paper batchwise carbonization of Jambad-Bowlah coal at 480-510ºC in a 240-300 lb./sq.ft./hr.capacity fluidized carbonizer using preheated air as fluidizing medium. The total time of carbonization for a 10-13 lb. batch of coal, excluding that required for heating up the plant was about 10 minutes. Coal feed rate of 600 lb./hr. was most suitable.
