An estimate is prepared of the country’s domestic fuel requirements and of how at the moment the requirements are met. The author suggests that in the interest of food production and soil conservation in the country, the dependence on cow dung, wood and farm wastes be reduced to a minimum, and a policy to replace these sources of fuel supply by low temperature coke prepared from non-coking coals should be adopted. It is suggested that a policy programme by prepared for the manufacture of 40-50 million tons of domestic coke per annum in the course of next ten or fifteen years.
