Abstract

Breathing apparatus is an essential personal Protective equipment for any work in an irrespirable atmosphere. It is compulsorily used by mines rescue personnel during emergency work after such mine disasters as explosion or fire. It is also often used by the fore fighting personnel. A critical review has been made in this article of the various types of self-contained breathing apparatus as used in different countries including India, and the trend of its future development.
