Abstract

the stability of a copper open pit slope was investigated by analyzing two dimensional finite difference models of the pit slopes. the result was found to be in agreement with the findings of limit equilibrium method. In the course of the study, geotechnical mapping was done to determine the critical orientation of geological discontinuities. Geotechnical properties were determined in the laboratory. The analysis by numerical modelling and limit equilibrium method of the open pit slopes indicate that 148 m deep open pit is stable with 60º overall slope angle.
