Abstract
Spacing of the fissuring network of Indian coals has been determined from the study of desorption of methane on sized coal particles. A critical appraisal of the morphology, rank of coals and their spacing of the fissuring network is provided. The limitations of the use of V1 values, the rate of desorption in the first minute, for the determination of the maximum desorbable gas content of coals have been discussed.
