Abstract

In India, rehabilitation of mined out area is now an obligatory for the sustainable development of any mining industry. For eco-friendly mining, a study has been performed for rehabilitation of the lignite mines of Panandro village of Kachuhh, Gujarat. The mining has generated huge amount of external as well as backfilled overburden dump. Dump slope stability analysis has been critically performed and factors of safety is suggested. For physical reclamation methods like terracing, moonscaping are designed. Finally to improve the ecology and aesthetics of the environment strategies for selection of economic and rare local plant species have been listed and their management programme are described as detailed.
