Abstract

The paper deals with the impact of mining and processing operations on degradation of surrounding environment of one of the oldest lead-zinc mining complexes in India. It has been observed that the qualities of air, water and soil are influenced by mining and processing activities. Although the control system adopted in the mine seems to be effective in mitigating environmental pollution in most of the area but still there are few places where the control system is inadequate and requires improvement for restoration of the environmental quality.
