Abstract

Himalaya is full of natural resources like water, soils, forests and minerals. The exploitation of natural resources of water, soils and forest from the region has been as old as pre-historic time. Exploitation of mineral wealth, although started very lately but centuries old. In the current century, mining of minerals particularly limestone has increased in the Himalayas with accelerated pace during last twenty five years. The substantial amount of environmental pollution and hazards to fragile grounds has been taken place due to use of some unscientific and unsuitable conventional methods of mining. Therefore, it is imperative to use scientific and environment friendly mining technological concepts to achieve the objective of mineral production with sustainable environment. The purpose of present paper is an attempt in this direction.
