Abstract

In-situ bio-reclamation of about 60 hectare area of Sizua- Bhelatand (TISCO) Dhanbad has been done, Different selected tree species, such as Sisam, Neem, Karanj, Jamun, Sagwan, Gair neem, Malesia sakhua, Gulmohar, Mahogni, Amaltas, Arjun, Siris, Subabook, Manga, Muchkun etc were palnted. Significiant improvement in the characteristics of various physico-chemical parameters as Moisture content, water holding capacity (WHC), pH, Electrical conductivity (EC), organic carbon (OC) , major available nutrients have been observed without evincing any significant change in nutrient contents. The growth and vigour of the planted species were seen to have enhanced remarkably in comparison with plants grown in normal soil after addition of organic manure. The mortality rate of the planted species was minimal except few. As a consequential cumulative effect of all this, the nitrogen fixing bacteria in the roots of planted species such as Sisam increased in to a greater extent, which evinced progressive increase in successive years of plantation.
