Abstract

Commercial explosives generate some amount of toxic gases, mostly carbon monoxide (CO) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx), during their detonation in practical usage conditions. Toxic gases generated by permitted explosives used in underground mines may get accumulated in physiologically harmful concentration. Permitted explosives, being used in underground coal mines, are therefore required to meet the stipulated criteria for their toxic fumes along with other safety and sensitivity parameters. The paper presents the laboratory method for assessment of CO & NOx generated by permitted explosives in standard laboratory condition.
