The physiochemical characteristics of mine water of the upper catchments of Ranigang coal field (west Bengal India) were studied to evaluate the water quality assessment program. Mine water samples were collected from underground coal mine discharged pumps and open cast coal mines. At total number of 27 mine water samples were analyzed for pH, EC, TDS, alkalinity and sulfate. Some parameters of water chemistry like TDS, Alkalinity, and Sulfate reflect continental weathering, mining and other anthropogenic impacts, limiting mine water use for domestic purpose.
