Abstract

The investigations carried out at Central Fuel Research Institute (C.F.R.I.) on the briquetting of inferior grade coals, slacks, coal fines and lignites from South Arcot, Palana, (Rajastan), Umarsar (Kutch) and Kashmir, using binders like tar and pitch and also without using these, are described. Briquetting of coke breeze, carbonization of coal and coke breeze briquettes and some pilot-plant studies on briquetting are also outlined. The studies on using weakly or non-caking coals and South Arcot lignites for metallurgical purposes, by extrusion and carbonization and also by preparing ferr-coke, are also mentioned.
