Abstract

The crossing point has often been used as an index for determining the susceptibility of coals to auto oxidation leading to heating. The crossing point is influenced by different experimental variables. The results of a critical examination of such variables are presented in this paper to suggest the optimum conditions under which reliable results with good reproducibility could be obtained. A suitably made air-bath was found convenient to regulate the bath temperature. Studies were carried out under rigorous experimental conditions.
