Abstract

Cast blasting technique reduces the overburden handling cost considerably. Due to this economical advantage, it is gaining importance day by day. This paper addresses the technical analysis of cast blasting technique. Economical criterion of this technique has been dealt with in detail. How this casting can be a viable alternative to shovel/dumper combination or dragline operation, is also discussed. Environmental problems associated with this method are outlined. Case studies regarding successful application of this technique is mentioned.
