Abstract

A scientific study was conducted to determine the dust emission rate of the blast furnace of a lead smelter and also the sintering pots and Dwight Lloyd sintering machines. The study revealed that during sintering of lead concentrate in sinter post of capacity 5 tonne each the dust load in the exhaust varied form 7.56 to 26.37 kg/hr without any gas cleaning device in the circuit. But in case of Dwight Lloyd sintering machine of capacity of 20 tonne/hr the dust load in the exhaust air with a wet scrubber in the circuit was of the order of 3.28 kg/hr. In case of blast furnace the chimney emission rate was on an average 45.62 kg/hr or 3.8% of the feed when there was no dust collector system, but the figure came down to 1.71 kg/hr or 0.21% of the feed when the there was bag filter in the exhaust air circuit
