Abstract

The high emission of firedamp in the south eastern section of Kargali Top seam at Sawang Colliery, Central Coalfields Limited has prevented advancement of the headings. The investigation on the problem and subsequent in stallation of methane drainage equipments indigenously designed and fabricated with followed in-seam degasification resulted in minimization of hazards and normalization of economically productive advance The endeavour became infact the first successful and commercial application of methane drainage technique in India.
