Abstract

This paper describes the investigation carried out on performance of simple auxiliary ventilation installations. Various parameters which define the system are discussed and necessary formulae for calculating them are listed. Procedure for carrying out underground investigation is described in detail. Errors introduced while making various simplifying assumptions have also been considered. The field investigation consisted of 32 studies conducted 22 auxiliary fan installations. Details of measurements and values of calculated parameters for these studies are given. Variations in values of leakage rate and volume ratio are discussed in details. Discussion also contains the recommendations for efficient performance of auxiliary ventilation installations. Average values coefficient of friction for steel and supported flexible ducting are suggested.
